Tyrrell Hatton carded a 1-under-par 70 on Sunday to secure a two-stroke victory and a first-place check of $4 million for winning LIV Golf Andalucia in Valderrama, Spain.
Hatton captured his second win on the circuit in three years after finishing at 11-under-par 273 for the tournament at Real Club Valderrama, two shots ahead of Legion XIII teammate and close friend Jon Rahm. The Spaniard, who also was a runner-up at this tournament last season, put the pressure on by finishing with a 67 on Sunday.
Hatton gave himself some breathing room on the 16th hole. The 34-year-old Englishman used a wedge approach to move within 18 feet, resulting in a birdie to increase his lead to two strokes over Rahm and three over Sergio Garcia.
'Yeah, I found today really stressful,' said Hatton, who carded four birdies against three bogeys.
'I feel like I hit a lot of good iron shots that didn't end up on the green. Obviously you saw a lot of pretty angry reaction from myself, but I'm happy with how I just kept plugging away and in a sense kind of got my reward with how I finished.
'It feels surreal to win, let alone the kind of place as iconic as this.'
Hatton also won the first time since becoming a father.
'To be honest, I thought no matter how today went, I'm still going to be home tonight, and I'll walk into a crying newborn, and I'll be doing nappies tonight,' he said. 'That was going to happen regardless.
'I'm really excited to get home to Emily and our little girl.'
And he will do so after Legion XIII was 3 under as a team on Sunday to finish at 7 under, six strokes ahead of 4Aces GC and Torque GC in the team competition.
'Obviously this type of golf course suits us,' Rahm said of Legion XIII. 'Ball striking is all of our strengths, and on a golf course like this one, it was exactly what was demanded of you. Clearly we did well.'
Abraham Ancer of Mexico carded a 68 on Sunday to finish in third place at 8 under, one shot ahead of Garcia (70) of Spain, who was alone in fourth.
Garcia trailed Hatton by one stroke before sending his tee shot wayward on the 16th hole. His approach landed short of the green, ultimately resulting in a bogey and effectively ending his bid to secure a spot in The Open Championship.
Louis Oosthuizen, who captains Southern Guards GC, withdrew from Sunday's final round after sustaining a back injury.
