Ben Cockayne looking for clean slate after dismissal from team

Ben Cockayne has vowed to clean-up his act after his former team Hull Kingston Rovers released the 28-year-old full-back following his involvement in a police car chase.

The incident came just weeks after he received a final warning from the club for putting racist remarks on Facebook.

Two years before that, the former soldier got a 12-month suspended prison sentence for assault.

But Cockayne, who has landed a one-year deal at Wakefield, insists his days getting caught up in trouble are behind him.

After playing in Wildcats' opening day 32-14 win over Widnes, he said: "It's time I grew up.

"I'm not going to deny that I was one for putting myself into silly situations but I'll learn from everything I've been through," the Daily Star quoted the rugby player as saying.

"It's time to put all those things to bed. I know I'm in the last-chance saloon but I want to prove to everybody that I'm worth another crack at Super League," he said.

Cockayne was only a passenger in the car that was chased by police and didn't do anything legally wrong.

"I wasn't sacked but it hurt. It opened my eyes and gave me the kick up the backside I needed after all the crp," he added. (ANI)
