Fidel Castro launches 2-volume memoir

Caribbean Herald (ANI) Sunday 5th February, 2012

Fidel Castro presented his two-volume memoir called 'Guerrilla of Time' in a rare appearance shown on Cuba's state television on Saturday.

Communist Party newspaper Granma said that the encounter with the former leader lasted more than six hours at a Havana convention centre.

Images on state television showed a smiling and animated Castro speaking to the audience and wearing a dark tracksuit over a blue button-up shirt, but the audio of him speaking was not broadcast, Fox News reported.

The book spans nearly 1,000 pages and covers Castro's first memories from childhood until December 1958, the eve of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

Castro retired as President of his country in 2008 following an illness and rarely appears in public these days. He showed up at a Communist Party congress last April. (ANI)
